Her Game Too Cricket are thrilled to announce that Cornwood Cricket Club have become the latest to partner with the campaign.
Located in Dartmoor National Park, close to Ivybridge and Plympton, Cornwood Cricket Club is “one of the most dynamic clubs in Devon with top notch facilities”.
Attracting players from all across the county, Cornwood is proud to be a “true family orientated club” which provides cricket for all ages and abilities.
Formed in 2009, the club’s Ladies division boasts one of the longest established Ladies’ teams in the Devon Women's Cricket League.
Over the years since its formation, the Ladies section has continued to grow – both in numbers and achievements.
In 2013 and 2014, the team won the Devon Women’s Cricket League titles and currently sit joint-second in the top division of the league for the 2024 season.
The club’s attention is not just focused on Women’s cricket either. Having recognised the need to develop players from a younger age, Cornwood now has a complete pathway in place for junior girl cricketers to advance to senior Women’s hardball cricket, with the option of choosing softball cricket as an alternative.
Girls from as young as four years old have opportunities to play and learn all about the game through the club’s multiple programmes, including the ECB’s All Stars initiative.
For 2024, Cornwood were able to field the following Women and Girls’ teams:
U11 Girls softball
U13 Girls hardball
Cornwood Oaks Ladies softball
Cornwood Dels Ladies softball
Cornwood CC Ladies hardball team.
The Women’s Softball team was a new addition for the 2024 season, participating in a friendly league amongst other local clubs.
Looking ahead to the future of the W&Gs section at the club, Cornwood CC are expecting to see an increase in the participation numbers by establishing a U17s hardball team in addition to those already in place.
Reflecting on the success of the W&G teams since the section's formation back in 2009, the introduction of Women and Girls’ cricket at Cornwood CC has “proven to be a fantastic move with participation numbers and quality of cricket played on the up!”
Ensuring that their achievements are recognised and celebrated, the club even have a dedicated honours boards on display in the club house for the W&Gs section. As the teams grow and players develop their games, more names and figures will continue to be added in the future.
With Women and Girls’ cricket at the club continuing to thrive, it is a pleasure to announce that Cornwood Cricket Club have joined the Her Game Too Cricket family by entering into a partnership.
Nick Goodliffe, Vice Chairman of Cornwood Cricket Club said: “From the time we started our women’s section in 2009 we have fully integrated our women’s and girls section into normal club life.
We support the women’s game equally with men’s and junior cricket. Our women are represented at committee level, and senior women’s players share the accolades on our club honours boards.
Supporting the Her Game Too initiative is a natural progression for Cornwood CC and is something I know the whole club will embrace.”
Paige Caunce, Director of Cricket at Her Game Too, said: “Having partnered with Devon Cricket earlier this year, the campaign is thrilled to be bringing a recreational club from the county on board in Cornwood CC.
With Women and Girls’ cricket continuing to grow each season, it has been incredibly refreshing speaking with those at the club about how they have embraced their female players – whether that be ensuring they have the opportunities to play or by celebrating their achievements.
On behalf of the cricket team at Her Game Too, I’d like to express our gratitude to the club for their support thus far and are looking forward to working together in the future, pushing our message that cricket is a game for all.”
