The future is bright for girls at our newest Her Game Too Cymru partner club, Haverfordwest County AFC

With a recently-launched girls’ development centre and a new artificial pitch installed, Her Game Too Cymru is delighted to partner with Haverfordwest County AFC at an exciting time in the club’s development.

The Pembrokeshire club is committed to creating and developing opportunities for females to play football in Wales, with ambitions to help nurture the journeys of girls who might one day play at the top level of Welsh football.

On the right, the Her Game Too Cymru logo features a red Welsh dragon in the background, a soccer ball incorporated into a Venus symbol, and a gold crown above. The word ‘PARTNERIAETH’ is displayed prominently above in uppercase white text. Below, the hashtag ‘#GêmHiHefyd’ is centered with a blue and white stripe underneath

A newly-laid 3G pitch will provide improved training facilities for all teams at the club and, in July, the Haverfordwest County AFC Girls’ Development Centre was launched, and has already hosted 205 training sessions, 30 matches and 28 strength and conditioning sessions.

The centre has also run ten classroom-based sessions, covering topics such as football analysis, health and wellbeing, social media, planning coaching sessions, psychology and respecting officials.

Mikey Loveridge, Head of Haverfordwest Women’s and Girls’ Football, said: “Our aim with our Girls’ Development Centre is to provide a provision for girls in Pembrokeshire that will develop them as footballers and people - and to give girls a pathway to the highest standard of women’s football in Wales.

“We plan to soon establish a Haverfordwest County Women’s team, which will provide an opportunity for our young players in the development centre to progress through the age groups with the goal to represent our women’s team, or to produce players for our Welsh Women’s national team.”

Three of the club’s girls are currently playing in the Football Association of Wales’s South Regional Centre, while three under-14 players have recently begun their coaching journeys - to help support the club’s coaches and fulfill volunteering targets as part of their educational courses.

A group of 20 from the club also went to watch Cymru’s Women’s EURO 2025 qualifying play-off against the Republic of Ireland.

Mikey added: “We have seen tremendous progress across all squads with some great results against the top girls’ teams across Wales.

“We believe the work off the pitch is just as important as the work on the pitch for the girls to bond as squads and feel they are a part of a football family.

“We as a club have never been so determined to create the best possible pathway for local female footballers, and to produce players for the future who we believe can play in the top tier of women’s football in Wales - and to show everyone how talented girls from Pembrokeshire are.

“The strides our players have made - both as individuals and as squads - fills us with pride.

“Witnessing their growth on and off the pitch reinforces our commitment to developing talent and creating a supportive environment for our young female footballers to thrive.

“We are dedicated to offering our girls numerous opportunities to enhance their skills, build meaningful relationships within their teams, and challenge themselves to achieve their personal and collective goals.”

Her Game Too Cymru representatives will be attending the grand opening of the club’s artificial pitch on New Year’s Day, when teams from the girls’ development centre will play in front of the crowds ahead of Haverfordwest County AFC’s men’s team hosting Aberystwyth in the JD Cymru Premier league.

Roopa Vyas, Chief Operating Officer of Her Game Too and Founder of Her Game Too Cymru, said: “This partnership with Haverfordwest County AFC marks an exciting step to collaborate with more Cymru League clubs, further strengthening our partnership through the Football Association of Wales.

“The incredible work being done at the club, particularly by Mikey, in developing their girls’ and women’s set-up sets a fantastic example and we’re proud to support their efforts in making football more inclusive and welcoming for all.”

Rebecca Nuttall, Haverfordwest County AFC’s Chief Operating Officer, said: “As a club, we are incredibly excited for this next chapter as we strive to grow our women’s and girls’ provision.

“Mikey is a huge ambassador for girls’ football and, with the backroom staff and coaching team involved in our Girls’ Development Centre, I can see this section of our club going from strength to strength in the coming years.

“Together at Haverfordwest County AFC we are determined to create the best opportunities for male and female footballers, promoting equality within the sport.

“We want to celebrate female players, coaches and supporters, and to work alongside clubs, organisations and governing bodies to foster a supportive environment and positive atmosphere for everyone.

“We as a club cannot wait to see how our female players develop and what's in store for them in the future.”
