A club that is committed to ensuring football is welcoming and inclusive to women and girls has become the latest Her Game Too partner.

Berwick Rangers FC and Berwick Rangers Community Academy are partnering with Her Game Too to reaffirm their support of the growth of female football and stamp out discrimination in the sport.

Jenny Patterson, Captain of Berwick Rangers Women’s FC, said, “At Berwick, we are really lucky that the environment here feels safe and welcoming for everyone to enjoy football.

“Unfortunately sexism still occurs in sport, so the more we can show support in eliminating this then hopefully the better experiences women and girls will have and the more comfortable they will feel to either support or take part in football, or any sport.”

Lauren Butler, who along with Jen Olivieri was one of two women to be appointed to the Berwick Rangers Community Academy Board of Trustees in 2024, said, “I think most female sports fans know the feeling of questioning your sense of belonging in the community.

“It’s incredibly encouraging to know that Berwick Rangers stands behind not only their female players, but also their female fans, and are actively working to make football a more welcoming place for women.

“Berwick Chairman Kevin Dixon has already begun demonstrating his commitment to supporting women in sports by appointing two women to the Academy Board of Trustees, and I am confident the support will only continue to grow through this partnership with Her Game Too.”

The club and academy is planning to hold a Her Game Too dedicated fixture at MKM Shielfield Park in February, as just one of its plans to support the campaign.

Lucy Ford, Her Game Too’s Head of Grassroots and Administration, said: “We are delighted to announce Berwick Rangers FC as our newest grassroots partner club.

“It’s been brilliant to see how the club is championing women and we’re excited to see that grow.

“We look forward to working together with them to promote our message that football is a game for all.”
