Her Game Too Cymru were thrilled to be invited to the Adran Premier Season Launch earlier this week in preparation for today's fixtures. The event was held in conjunction with Monumental Welsh Women.
This is the highest level of women’s league football in Wales, and since our partnering with the Adran Leagues earlier this year we are so excited to be involved on another level. The launch saw a player from each of the eight teams taking part in a photo shoot and also have spend some time with the media.
We were invited along to chat to players and spread the word of Her Game Too. The players wore Gêm Hi Hefyd t-shirts to show their support for the campaign.
The Adran Premier League launches this weekend and newly promoted Britton Ferry will be taking their first step in this league. They have high ambitions as Alice Broadley said: “We definitely want that top four spot… we should feel more professional going into the game.”
Having this level of women’s football in Wales is a huge movement towards growing the game. This year we have seen signings from England and other players have been attracted to the Adran Leagues.
Chloe Chivers from Swansea City said: “I think all our signings are going to bring in different abilities.”
Cardiff City player, Megan Bowen said: “I think it's good for the league that we are attracting players from England, especially as the leagues growing… it’s an exciting time to be a part of this league.”
The start of the season commences today, with Aberystwyth Town v Briton Ferry Ladies at 2pm, along with Barry Town United v The New Saints and Cardiff Met v Swansea City at the same time. Wrexham take on last year's champions Cardiff City at a later time of 5:10pm and will be live on Sgorio on S4C.
Seeing the women’s game grow is important and our partnership with the league we are here to help this movement. Aimee, our Her Game Too Cymru representative at the event said: “It was incredible to be at the launch, seeing the players in our shirts and talking about Her Game Too was just incredible. Sometimes we have to realise how far we have come as a campaign.
“I loved having the opportunity to speak to players ahead of the league and it was so exciting to see the excitement within these players and most importantly the love they have for this sport.”
Hopefully you can get yourselves down to a game this coming weekend and support the girls in this growing and developing league.
